The objective of this project was to create a home accessory that caters to a specific area in the house, I chose to focus on the Entryway. As the first point of contact, the entryway welcomes individuals home after a long day at work or a vacation. It is also the place where homeowners often remove their shoes, jackets, and other items from their pockets, which can include a few jingling coins. As a result, I designed a product to hold loose change.
Through extensive research, I examined how individuals typically manage their loose change and identified which coins hold the most value in people's lives. It became apparent that dimes and quarters were the only change that people regularly hang onto for small transactions such as parking and laundry. With this in mind, I created a slide that separates more important coins from less crucial ones and enables individuals to save money with ease.
In the development phase, I explored various textures, finishes, and shapes to optimize the product's functionality and aesthetic appeal. The final design is manufactured using CNC aluminum and powder-coated, providing both weight and durability, adding value to the entryway. I utilized Rhino and V-Ray rendering software to create the product model, and the physical model was 3D printed using PLA plastic and sealed with resin for a smooth finish.
