The focus of this ceramics project was to explore the slip casting technique, which involves pouring liquefied clay into a plaster mold. As the plaster gradually absorbs the clay's moisture, a layer of clay particles forms a skin, leaving behind the mold's skeleton once it is removed. This project holds a special place in my heart as it was my first experience with this process.
In addition to slip casting, I also had the opportunity to utilize Rhino software for the first time. The software was instrumental in rendering the vessel, which was then transformed into a tool path for a CNC machine. The plaster mold was cast as a single block and then carefully cut in half to achieve the desired shape.
In the final stages of the project, I applied my artistic skills to hand-paint a unique design onto the vessel. To ensure that the vessel was food safe, I only applied a clear glaze to the inside. Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of ceramics and the intricate processes involved in creating functional and aesthetic pieces.
